AeroAcademy Foundation Degree Student receives internship from Airbus

Louise Corkin; a second year student, studying the Foundation Degree in Aerospace Engineering (Maintenance Repair and Overhaul) at AeroAcademy has been offered a Quality Operations Support Internship at Airbus Broughton, beating competition from 7500 applicants. The Airbus Group is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2015, the Group – comprising Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space and Airbus Helicopters – generated revenues of €64.5 billion and employed a workforce of around 136,600.

Louise will be working with Quality/ Processes and standards which are responsible for ensuring adherence to processes and procedures delivering safety and Quality to the customer.The internship role will include:

  • Interfacing with the operational teams providing feedback to operations and support functions
  • Carrying out investigations and root cause analysis in reported quality/technical issues from business team and customer
  • Ensuring that appropriate corrective and preventative action is taken
  • Maintaining data and producing KPI information required for Quality Excellence

Having applied for the internships in November, which include undertaking online tests, Louise was selected to go to an assessment day in March which included the opportunity of speaking to a current Intern. Louise was able to apply her knowledge gained from the Foundation Degree of the how departments interconnect MRO industry and her understanding of Human Factors, Quality and legislation. The Internship will give her a chance to communicate with other interns at Airbus, liaise with departments within Airbus and apply theoretical knowledge in real life situations.

AeroAcademy would like to congratulate Louise in obtaining this internship which will commence after completing her studies at AeroAcademy. Louise hopes to use her experience with the Internship to able to progress her studies to a Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) (IEng) accredited BSc(Hons) top-up programme in Aircraft Engineering at Kingston University.
